Warm-up 🔁

Before the new story, let's bring back the words from before. The ones that are ready to review are waiting here — this is how they stay in your memory for good.

Coffee with Tom 📖

Read it slowly. Say the words out loud.

Tom takes Mia to a small, warm café. Cups and bread on the counter.

"Come, Mia! Let's have a coffee," says Tom.

They go to a small café. It is warm. It smells of coffee and fresh bread.

Mia orders a coffee at the café counter. Rosa, the friendly café owner, smiles.

A woman is at the counter. "Hello! What can I get you?" she says. Her name is Rosa.

"Can I have a coffee, please?" says Mia.

"Of course. And for you?" Rosa asks Tom.

"A tea for me, please. And a sandwich," says Tom.

"How much is it?" asks Mia.

"Four pounds, please," says Rosa.

Mia pays. "Thank you!" she says. She is happy — she ordered in English! ☕

Notice: Mia orders with three little words — Can I have… please? Learn them next.

The pattern: a / an 🧩

Before one thing, we use a little word: a or an.

a coffee  ·  a tea  ·  a sandwich
We use a before most words.
an apple  ·  an orange  ·  an egg
We use an before a, e, i, o, u sounds.

To order, put it together like Mia:

Can I have a coffee, please?
That's all you need today. The story is the heart — this little pattern just makes it work.

Your teacher is Rosa. Speak your lines — don't write them.

Rosa: "Hello! What can I get you?"

You: (order a hot drink ☕ — be polite)

Rosa: "Of course. Anything to eat?"

You: (ask for something to eat 🥪)

Rosa: "Here you are!"

You: (ask the price)

Rosa: "Four pounds, please."

You: (pay and say a polite word)

Round 2 — swap!

Now YOU are Rosa, and your teacher is Mia. But this time Mia wants different things — a cold drink, and no sandwich.
