Warm-up 🔁

Before the new story, let's bring back your words from Lessons 1 and 2. The ones ready to review are waiting here — a little today, a little in a few days.

Why are you late? 📖

Read it slowly. Say the words out loud.

Mia runs down the street clutching a bag, scarf flying, clearly late; a bus pulls away behind her.

One morning, everything goes wrong for Mia. She is late! 🏃‍♀️

First, her alarm doesn't ring. Then she can't find her keys. Then she misses the bus!

She runs to the café. Rosa is there. "Why are you late?" she asks.

"I'm late because my alarm didn't ring," says Mia, out of breath.

Mia at the café explaining with big hand gestures while Rosa laughs kindly, coffee pot in hand.

"And because I lost my keys. And because I missed the bus!"

Rosa laughs kindly. "What a morning! Sit down. Have a coffee." ☕

"Thank you," says Mia. "I need it!" 😅

Notice: we ask Why…? and answer with because + a reason. Why? Because I was tired.

Act it out 🎭

Now YOU are in the story. What a terrible morning!

🎬 The scene: The café door. You run in, out of breath. Rosa is waiting with the coffee pot.

Round 1 — you are Mia

Your teacher is Rosa. Speak your lines — don't write them.

Rosa: "Mia! It's ten o'clock! Why are you late?"

You: (give your first reason — the thing that didn't wake you)

Rosa: "Oh dear. Was that all?"

You: (give two more reasons — the keys and the bus)

Rosa: "You poor thing! Why do you look so tired now?"

You: (give the reason — say how you came to the café)

Round 2 — swap!

Now YOU are Rosa, and your teacher is Mia. But this time Mia is late in the evening, for new reasons — ask her why, and after each answer ask why again.
