Warm-up 🔁

Before the new story, let's bring back your words from Lessons 1 and 2. The ones ready to review are waiting here — a little today, a little in a few days.

A strange noise 📖

Read it slowly. Say the words out loud.

Night: Mia sits up in bed wide-eyed, clutching the blanket; a strange shadow at the window; the ginger cat's fur puffed up.

It is two o'clock in the night. Mia hears something! 😱

Scratch, scratch, at the window. She sits up. Is there anything there?

The ginger cat's fur goes up. Mia is afraid. "Is anybody there?"

She looks, but she sees nothing — only a dark shadow. She waits and waits.

Morning: Mia laughs with relief at a tree branch by her window; Tom peers over the fence holding pruning shears.

In the morning, she looks outside. There is nothing scary — just a tree branch! 🌳

And Tom is in his garden with big scissors. "Sorry! Did I wake you?" he laughs.

"It was only a branch!" says Mia, happy. "I was so silly!" 😅

Notice: something/anything/nothing for things · somebody/anybody/nobody for people.

Act it out 🎭

Now YOU are in the story. What a scary night that was!

🎬 The scene: The morning after. Tom is in his garden with his big scissors, and you come out, very tired.

Round 1 — you are Mia

Your teacher is Tom. Speak your lines — don't write them.

Tom: "Good morning, Mia! Oh — you look very tired. Are you OK?"

You: (say what you heard at two o'clock, and how you felt)

Tom: "Oh no! And did you see it?"

You: (say what you saw at the window — and what you did NOT see, using your little "-thing" words)

Tom: "Ah… that was me and the tree. Sorry! Did I wake you?"

You: (say what the scary thing really was, and that there was no danger at all)

Round 2 — swap!

Now YOU are Tom, and your teacher is Mia. But this time YOU heard a noise last night — on your roof — and in the morning it was only the ginger cat.
