Warm-up 🔁

Before the new story, let's bring back your words from Lessons 1 and 2. The ones ready to review are waiting here — a little today, a little in a few days.

Get well soon 📖

Read it slowly. Say the words out loud.

Mia on her sofa wrapped in a blanket with a red nose, tissues and lemon tea; the ginger cat sits beside her like a nurse.

Oh no. Mia is ill. She has a bad cold. Her nose is red. 🤧

She stays on the sofa with a blanket. The ginger cat sits with her, like a little nurse.

Rosa calls. "You should stay in bed," she says. "You shouldn't come to work."

"You should drink hot tea with lemon," says Tom. "And rest a lot." 🍋

Rosa arriving at Mia's door with a pot of soup; Tom behind her holding flowers.

Soon there is a knock. Rosa brings soup! Tom brings flowers. 💐

"You shouldn't worry about the café," says Rosa. "Just get better."

Mia feels warm inside. "With friends like you, I'll be fine!" 😊

Notice: we use should for good advice and shouldn't for a bad idea. You should rest.

Act it out 🎭

Now YOU are in the story. Your friend needs your good advice!

🎬 The scene: The phone rings at the café. It is Mia, on her sofa under a blanket, with a very red nose.

Round 1 — you are Rosa

Your teacher is Mia. Speak your lines — don't write them.

Mia: "Hello, Rosa? I feel so bad today. My nose is red and my head hurts."

You: (say what she has, and give her your first piece of advice)

Mia: "But the café is so busy! I want to come to work!"

You: (tell her that is a bad idea — say what she must NOT do, in a kind way)

Mia: "OK, OK… What can I eat or drink? What else can I do?"

You: (give her two more pieces of advice — something warm, and rest — and say you will visit)

Round 2 — swap!

Now YOU are Mia, and your teacher is Rosa. But this time it is a week later: Rosa has the cold now, and her back hurts too — YOU call her with advice.
