Warm-up 🔁

Before the new story, let's bring back your words from Lessons 1 and 2. The ones ready to review are waiting here — a little today, a little in a few days.

The closed café 📖

Read it slowly. Say the words out loud.

Mia outside the café looking puzzled: the lights are off and a small blank sign hangs on the door.

One morning, Mia comes to work. But the café is dark and closed! 😮

There is a small sign on the door. "Where is Rosa?" Mia thinks.

She calls Tom. "Rosa has gone to the city," he says. "She isn't back yet."

"Why?" asks Mia. "For her sister's wedding. She'll be back on Monday." 💒

Mia reading a colourful postcard with palm trees on it, smiling with relief.

Two days later, a postcard comes. It has palm trees on it! 🌴

"I have been to a beautiful city," Rosa writes. "I'm coming home soon!"

On Monday, Rosa is back. "I have gone and I have come home!" she laughs. 😊

Notice: has gone = she left and is still away. has been = she went and is back now.

Act it out 🎭

Now YOU are outside the dark café, phone in hand!

🎬 The scene: Monday morning. The café is closed, there is a small sign on the door, and Rosa is not there. You call Tom.

Round 1 — you are Mia

Your teacher is Tom. Speak your lines — don't write them.

Tom: "Hello Mia! Are you at work?"

You: (say the café isn't open — and what you see on the door)

Tom: "Ah yes. Rosa isn't there. She left on Friday."

You: (ask where she has gone)

Tom: "To the city, for her sister's wedding. Don't worry!"

You: (say you understand — then ask if she will be back in a short time)

Round 2 — swap!

Now YOU are Tom, and your teacher is Mia. But this time it is Rosa who calls — she is back, and she tells you where she has been.
