Warm-up 🔁

Before the new story, let's bring back your words from Lessons 1 and 2. The ones ready to review are waiting here — a little today, a little in a few days.

Neck and neck 📖

Read it slowly. Say the words out loud.

A friendly sack race in the park: Mia and Tom neck-and-neck mid-hop, Rosa laughing as referee with a whistle.

It is games day in the park! There is a funny sack race. 🏃

Mia and Tom both jump in big sacks. Rosa is the referee with a whistle.

"Ready? Go!" They hop and hop. Mia is fast — but Tom is as fast as Mia!

They jump side by side. Tom is not as young as Mia, but he is strong! 💪

Mia and Tom collapsed on the grass laughing, holding one small ribbon between them.

At the finish, they cross the line together. It is a tie! 🎀

They fall on the grass, laughing. "You're as good as me!" says Mia.

"We're both winners!" laughs Tom. They share the little ribbon. 🏅

Notice: to say two things are the same, we use as … as. Tom is as fast as Mia. Not the same: not as … as.

Act it out 🎭

Now YOU are on the grass after the big sack race!

🎬 The scene: The park, just after the race. You and Tom crossed the finish line together, and Rosa the referee saw it all.

Round 1 — you are Mia

Your teacher is Tom. Speak your lines — don't write them.

Tom: "What a race! You are very fast, Mia!"

You: (tell him he is the same speed as you — compare the two of you)

Tom: "Ha! But you are young. I am sixty!"

You: (agree — compare his age and yours — but say he is strong)

Tom: "So tell me, referee's friend — who is the winner?"

You: (say nobody won — say what the race was, and that you are both equally good)

Round 2 — swap!

Now YOU are Tom, and your teacher is Mia. But this time it was a swimming race, and Rosa was in it too.
