Recall — FRAME (Lesson 1)
Numbat — "That's a nuanced question..." Bat — "On balance, I'd say..." Cow — "It's conceivable that..." Frogmouth — "Let me frame this another way..." Camel — "I'd want to caveat that by saying..."

Polar Bear — "My position is..." Elephant — "The evidence suggests..." Praying Mantis — "What this means in practice is..." Tapir — "I take your point, however..." Stingray — "To strengthen that argument..."
Recall — NAVIGATE (Lesson 3)
Seahorse — "I see where you're coming from, but..." Angel — "Another perspective might be..." Puffin — "I'd push back slightly on that..." Platypus — "Playing devil's advocate..." Agaric Fungi — "We may need to agree to disagree..."

Your Mission

You can FRAME, POSITION, NAVIGATE, and QUALIFY. Now you need to CONNECT — sustain extended turns, synthesise ideas, and tie threads together.

5 new expressions. 30 seconds. Then they vanish.

The Creatures
Five creatures for five ways to sustain, synthesise, and thread ideas together.
The CONNECT Toolkit

The difference between a good speaker and a great one? Great speakers don't just make points — they weave them together. These 5 expressions let you build momentum, return to earlier threads, and show how everything connects.

Buffalo → Cicada → Tiger → Thorny Devil → Quail

The 5 CONNECT Creatures
*
BU = Buffalo
Key word: "Building" → "Building on that point..." — A Buffalo charging forward, each stride adding momentum to the last. It doesn't stop — it builds.
*
CI = Cicada
Key word: "Circle" → "To circle back to what I mentioned earlier..." — A Cicada that burrows underground for years, then resurfaces at exactly the right moment. It always comes back.
*
TI = Tiger
Key word: "Ties" → "What ties this together is..." — A Tiger prowling through scattered ideas, then pouncing on the one thread that connects them all
*
TH = Thorny Devil
Key word: "Throughline" → "The throughline here is..." — A Thorny Devil — spikes running in a perfect line down its back. One unbroken thread from head to tail.
*
QU = Quail
Key word: "Question" → "This connects to the broader question of..." — A Quail lifting its head above the grass, seeing the bigger landscape that everyone else has missed
Build Your Scenes
Five creatures, five expressions. Make each scene unforgettable.
Scene-building tip: Connection is about momentum and architecture. The Buffalo doesn't pause — picture it mid-stampede, each stride layering on the last. The Tiger doesn't wander — it stalks through chaos and seizes the one thread that matters. Make your scenes about movement and precision.
Your CONNECT Chain
Five tools for sustaining extended, coherent turns.
The Architecture of Extended Speech

These five move from local to global: extend a point → return to an earlier thread → synthesise → identify the throughline → broaden to the bigger picture. Master these and you never lose your audience.

When to Use Each One
Buffalo — "Building on that point..." Extends what was just said without repeating it. You're adding a new layer. Use when the current thread has energy and you want to push it further. Signals to your audience that the argument is gaining weight.
Cicada — "To circle back to what I mentioned earlier..." Returns to a previous point with fresh context. The audience now sees it differently because of what's been discussed since. Use when an earlier point gains new relevance. Signals strategic thinking and memory.
Tiger — "What ties this together is..." Synthesises multiple threads into a single insight. Use after a discussion has generated several ideas and the audience needs to see the pattern. This is the moment of clarity everyone has been waiting for.
Thorny Devil — "The throughline here is..." Names the underlying thread that runs through everything. Use when the conversation feels scattered and needs grounding. This phrase says: "I've been tracking the deeper logic beneath all of this."
Quail — "This connects to the broader question of..." Zooms out. Elevates a specific discussion to a wider strategic or philosophical level. Use when you want to show that the current conversation has implications beyond the immediate topic.
Lock It In

Close your eyes. Walk through the five creatures. Buffalo charges forward, building momentum. Cicada resurfaces at the perfect moment. Tiger pounces on the connecting thread. Thorny Devil carries one unbroken line. Quail lifts its head to see the bigger picture.

The Test
No peeking. What do you remember?
