Warm-up 🔁

Before the new story, let's bring back your words from the lessons before. The ones ready to review are waiting here — a little today, a little in a few days.

Too big! Too small! 📖

Read it slowly. Say the words out loud.

The party at the café is on Saturday! Mia is happy — but she has a problem. "My clothes are old. I want something new!"

She goes to a small shop in town. A friendly woman works there. "Hello! Can I help you?" "Yes, please. I want something for a party!"

Mia in a small clothes shop, holding up a jacket that is much too big for her, laughing at the mirror.

Mia tries on a jacket. Oh no! It is too big! She looks in the mirror and laughs. "I am a very small elephant!" 🐘

Then she tries on a hat. It is too small! It sits on her head like a little cup. 😄

The woman smiles. "Wait one minute." She comes back with a dress. It is amber — like the sun in the evening.

Mia steps out of the changing room in a lovely amber dress; the friendly shop assistant gives a big thumbs up.

Mia tries it on. It is not too big. It is not too small. It is… perfect!

"Wow! That dress is perfect for you!" says the woman. Mia smiles and smiles.

Mia buys the dress. Now she is ready for the party. "Saturday, here I come!" 🎉

Notice: the jacket was too big and the hat was too small — but the dress was perfect. That little word too means "more than is good". Learn the words next.

Your new words 🗂️

Tap a card to see its meaning. These eight join your review deck — next to the words from the lessons before.

The pattern: too + adjective 🧩

When something is more than is good, we put too in front of the describing word.

The jacket is too big.  ·  The hat is too small.
The tea is too hot.  ·  The dress is too expensive.
very big = big! 😀  ·  too big = big — and not good 😖
A very big cake is wonderful. A too-big jacket goes back on the shelf.
Picture it: shoes 👟 too small — ouch! · a jacket 🧥 too big — hello, elephant! · soup 🍲 too hot — wait a minute! · a bag 🧳 too heavy — help!

Act it out 🎭

Now YOU are in the story — in the little clothes shop.

🎬 The scene: The party is on Saturday, and you want something new. A friendly woman works in the shop.

Round 1 — you are Mia

Your teacher is the shop woman. Speak your lines — don't write them.

Shop woman: "Hello! Can I help you?"

You: (say yes, please — say what you want, and for what day)

Shop woman: "Here — this jacket. Try it on! Is it good?"

You: (it is not good — say why, with that little word "too")

Shop woman: "Oh dear! Then this hat. Try it on!"

You: (not good again — say why; this time it is not big!)

Shop woman: "Hmm. Wait one minute… Here — an amber dress!"

You: (try it on — say it is not too big, not too small, but…!)

Round 2 — swap!

Now YOU are the shop woman, and your teacher is Mia. But this time she wants warm clothes for a cold, rainy day — a jacket and shoes.
