Duolingo English Test — Your Practice Path

Five lessons that build to test day · Target: 120 (about IELTS 6.5)

The Duolingo English Test is a one-hour online test taken at home, scored 10–160. It mixes many short tasks — reading a sentence aloud, describing a photo, typing what you hear, following a conversation, writing, and more. There is no separate grammar paper: everything is speaking, listening, reading and writing. Your result is one overall score plus four sub-scores:
Literacy — reading + writing
Comprehension — reading + listening
Conversation — listening + speaking
Production — speaking + writing
Work through the lessons in the order below. The full mock is deliberately last.

The path

Follow these in order — the numbers in the file names are just labels.

1 · Meet the Tasks

Every DET task, one by one — read aloud, describe the photo, speak on a topic, listen & type, and the writing sample — plus the golden rule: never stop.

2 · The Two Extra Tasks

The bigger, trickier tasks: Interactive Reading (a passage with several questions) and Interactive Listening (choose the best reply in a conversation, then summarise).

STEP 3

3 · Speaking & Fluency Booster

Sound clear and keep going without freezing — buy-time phrases, read-aloud, photo description and lots of speaking topics.

STEP 4

4 · Writing & Vocabulary Booster

Stronger words and cleaner writing — upgrade weak vocabulary, complete-the-word, a reading passage, and timed writing samples.

STEP 5

5 · Listen & Type · Read & Complete

The two tasks that come round most often — dictation you can play aloud, passages with letters missing, real-or-fake words and the spellings that cost marks.

6 · The Full Mock & Final Week

The dress rehearsal: all the tasks together under time, how to score yourself, and a calm day-by-day plan for the final week and test day.

Reusable for any student: every lesson is self-contained and works in a normal browser (the interactive parts run on the live site). The mock is designed to be repeated — alternate the lessons as full timed run-throughs until the real test feels familiar.
